Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) is seeking a highly motivated, community-oriented and collaborative Program Manager II to serve as Branch Supervisor for the Kensington Park Library to provide excellent customer service and equalized opportunities for Montgomery County residents. Our branch supervisors supervise staff, serve as system trainers, and participate as members of planning and implementation workgroups. 

MCPL Branch Supervisors provide a variety of professional programs and services reflective of, and responsive to community needs and assets. They develop and deliver inclusive and equitable, community-led programs and services. These positions represent MCPL within the community, building collaborative relationships, programs, and services in partnership with community members and organizations. Branch Supervisors also help to manage MCPL materials to meet the educational, recreational and information needs of the community. These positions provide customers with basic technological and in-depth informational assistance.

The Branch Supervisor for the Kensington Park Library also has oversight of the Noyes Library for Young Children, located at 10237 Carroll Place, Kensington, MD 20895, about half a mile from Kensington Park. This small, one-room building is one of eight libraries in the country dedicated exclusively to serving our youngest customers and their families. While both branches have their own, dedicated staff compliments and unique needs, the Branch Supervisor is responsible for monitoring service levels and making adjustments to address operational needs.

Essential Duties/Major Responsibilities:

  • Promotes and supports MCPL’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion values with staff and customers. Centers the experiences of people and communities who are most affected by structural inequities when engaging in programming, partnerships, and information services work.
  • Manage branch collections.
  • Ensure delivery of excellent customer service by modeling best practices, guiding staff and implementing policies and solving problems.
  • Serve as a leader of a branch management team, planning and organizing the work of the branch.
  • Lead the day-to-day operations of a library branch.
  • Serve as an on-site manager or assistant manager, supervising, training, evaluating as well as coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Develop, provide, and evaluate training to a diverse staff, throughout the Department.
  • Respond directly to customer concerns, suggestions, and complaints.
  • Engage with the library community by performing outreach and serving as the branch liaison to the Library Advisory Committee
  • Serve on workgroups and committees designed to encourage communication and problem solving across all levels of the organization.
